At first glance, Cara Delevingne’s ensemble seems closer to last year’s Met Ball theme (Punk: Chaos to Couture) than this year’s. You might not realize it is a subtle nod to Charles James until you see the forward-thinking criss-cross straps on his 1948 (!) evening gown.
